Petco to close doors at Northway Shopping Center in Colonie – Times Union

COLONIE — The Petco at the Northway Shopping Center will be closing its doors after more than a decade.

A spokesperson for the pet supply store confirmed that the last day of operations for the location at 1440 Central Ave will be Jan. 28 after the landlord “exercised their early termination right. ”

“We value the relationships we’ve built with pet parents in the Albany community and are constantly evaluating our real estate portfolio to ensure our Petco pet care centers are conveniently located to serve our customers, ” a Petco spokesperson said.

The building manager was not available to comment on the closure.

“A lot of people are extremely unhappy because it’s one of the only dog stores on the bus line, ” a Petco employee said. “Latham is the (next) closest Petco but a lot of clients have said it’s not convenient and that they’ll be switching. ”

Inventory will be on sale leading up to the closure, with sales fluctuating based on how much product remains at the store that’s also known for its grooming services.

The particular employee said only the Colonie store will close and that two other Capital Region locations will not be impacted. In addition to the Latham store, which opened in 2013, there is also a Petco in Clifton Park.
