Darcie Erman opens Forever Family Grooming
COSHOCTON — Seeing a need in the community and having a love for pooches led Darcie Erman to launch a new dog grooming venture.
Forever Family Grooming held a soft opening a few months ago as Erman built a clientele and got the hang of running her own business. Now, she’s in full swing as word of mouth has made her busy. Erman doesn’t have any employees, but, her husband, Michael, helps out. They married on Valentine’s Day.
During the pandemic, the couple opened Forever Family Puppies, a breeding kennel. Erman would get the dogs groomed at Shampoodles in West Lafayette. In order to save money, Erman started grooming the dogs herself.
Shampoodles owner, Nicole Rettos, encouraged Erman to start her own business as local groomers are often backed up for months on appointments with many are not accepting new clients. Erman said other groomers have been supportive and often send clients her way.
There is no certification to become a pet groomer. Erman is self-taught via books, videos and advice from others.
“I just did all of our dogs, continuously doing them, and got better over time,” she said. “The local groomers have thanked me and welcomed me to the grooming community, because I’m lightening their load.”
Forever Family Groomers offers full grooming services. Dogs can also come in for a quick trim, nail clipping or bath. Erman is currently servicing about a dozen dogs a week.
Erman said she’s always loved canines. Being able to pamper dogs and take care of them in a way they can’t do themselves is a joy to her.
“They all have different personalities and are all unique in their own ways. I like that I get to give the owners a break from their dog responsibility and when they come to pick them up their dog is squeaky clean and happy to see them,” Erman said.
Additionally, 3% of all puppy sells through the kennel goes to the Nephrotic Syndrome Foundation for research and support of families. Erman’s 7-year-old daughter, Macy, suffers from the rare kidney disease.
