Dog with ‘huge heart’ escapes from kennels to comfort crying abandoned puppies – The Mirror
Having to listen to a puppy cry themselves to sleep is heartbreaking – especially when you know you can ease their pain.
An Australian shepherd, named Maggie, has been caught on camera breaking out of her kennel to try to comfort two abandoned puppies through the night.
The dog, who recently gave up her own puppies to new owners, was spending the night at Barker’s Pet Motel and Grooming while her owner was busy.
The family-run business in St Albert, Alberta, in America, provides day care and boarding services and opens its doors to rescue dogs who have nowhere else to go.
It was only after the team reviewed their CCTV the next morning that they discovered what Maggie got up to during the night – and they couldn’t help but smile.

A spokeswoman said: “We see a lot of adorable things here at Barkers but this story takes the cake.
“Our newest foster puppies arrived from Alberta Animal Rescue Crew Society, also staying with us right now is a dog who was recently adopted from the Humane Society who had her own puppies taken away about two weeks ago.
“Last night, the mumma dog, Maggie, must have heard the babies crying and let herself out of her kennel to lay next to their room. We put them together for a while and all three of them were so happy!”
After spending the night together, Maggie’s owner came to collect her – and was delighted to hear all about her baby sitting duties.
Following the event, the spokeswoman told The Mirror: “Maggie still boards with us from time to time. The puppies found homes very quickly.”
Commenting on the adorable situation, which has been shared on Facebook, one user said: “One of the many reasons I love dogs so very much – no truer, loving, loyal beings ever. They have shown me so very many times this is exactly who and what they are built out of.”
Another user added: “Made my heart sing! I’ve seen this a lot in my long life, thankfully. But this dog is exceptionally bright – so smart and she knew just what she wanted to do. Maggie clearly has a huge heart – she has so much love to give.”
A third user said: “This is so lovely – dogs are really just loving and gentle souls. It’s amazing how they just love us unconditionally.
“I can’t imagine my life with out my two. I truly believe that they for the most part have more compassion and empathy than humans.”
Another user said: “Wow! I am so happy to see that you are doing a wonderful job and obviously love and understands the needs of the animals you take care for. Thank you for allowing this mummy to nurture these needy babies!”
