Closing-down sale at Stan’s Pals Pet Shop and Groomers in… – Derbyshire Live

A pet shop in a South Derbyshire town centre is closing down, but its dog-walking service will continue. Stan’s Pals Pet Shop and Groomers, in Swadlincote, officially shut its doors on Thursday, January 12.

Upon announcing the closure, the owner of the local independent business revealed they had been battling health and family issues over the past year. This influenced the decision to close the shop and grooming salon after several years of trading, first on The Delph before moving to the nearby Midland Road.

There will be some short opening times over the next two weeks for those wanting to grab a bargain as they sell off the remaining stock that is already in the store – although the prices of animals will not be reduced. The next one will take place this afternoon (Tuesday, January 17) between 1pm and 5pm.

Stan’s Pet Services will continue to run and includes dog-walking and pet-visiting services. In a message to customers, the owner said: “I would like to thank you for allowing us to share the lives of your dogs and for trusting us with their grooming needs and for visiting our shop over the years.

“As you may know I have had some issues over the last year with health and family and this has meant I have not been able to focus on the business to the extent I did in the past, and I have now sadly come to the conclusion I need to reduce work. This means our grooming services plus our pet shop will certainly cease trading on Thursday, January 12.

“I have loved working with so many animal lovers in Swad and will miss you all. Good luck in the future. Our shop will be open for limited hours to allow the sell-through associated with some of our stock. Look out on our Facebook page for when this will happen.

“If you are a VIP client we would like to say a very heartfelt thank you for supporting us so fully and we need to remind you to cancel your standing order as soon as you can, we may not be able to refund amounts paid in error as we may not have control of our bank account by then.

“Stan’s Pet Services will continue to trade run by Ellie, therefore our dog walking and pet visiting services will remain unaffected. For info on these services please message us. ”

The first “shop while you still can” session took place on Saturday, January 14, with the owner posting a message to say a “massive thank you” to customers who popped in to pick up the remaining pet food stock. A Facebook post advertising the second event today reads: “We will be open again upon Tuesday afternoon from 1pm to 5pm and will have some shop fittings, display items and office equipment on sale for you as well as our usual range.

“Please note that the health and well-being of our animals remains at the top of our own agenda so there will be no ‘bargain’ animals. All payments need to be in cash only.

“Make sure you take the chance to come in and stock up on raw food and your other favourites before we close for good. Thank you so much for all the lovely comments and for your support at this time. ”
